In today's chaotic landscape more and more people are searching for ways to replenish balance and inner peace. #Selfcare is all about creating a climate where we feel good physically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually. Self service moments don't necessarily mean a $200 Spa treatment or a full blown hour meditation session - it's all customized to the moment and the individual. Let's discover 5 ways to refill your empty cup.
5 Minute Meditations.
Taking a few moments to rebalance our inner and outer awareness is something even the busiest individuals can afford to incorporate daily. Self care is essentially letting things go instead of taking things on. Find a relatively quiet place, this could be your office, a bathroom or any other space that is free of excess noise. Close your eyes, breathe deeply and slowly for 60 seconds becoming aware of your whole body. Thoughts may come and go and that's ok. The goal is to let go of them gently, let them pass. Take 3 mins to focus on your physical and mental awareness - becoming present in the moment. Mentally acknowledge your gratefulness for this new day and tell yourself how much you love yourself. With your final moment, shift your focus from what you want/need to get done by the end of the day - to how do you want to close the day feeling. If you respond better to guided meditation, check out our curated meditation playlist on Spotify here: Meditation for the Masses. We get it, it sounds cliche' but daily gentle mental alignments help to create thought patterns and relax our subconscious allowing us to operate to our full potential.
Weekly Warm Bath.
Everyone loves a warm bubbly bath but very few have the time to take one daily. Honestly that is ok, the health benefits lasts long past the towel pat down. Bathing even once a week reduces stress levels by opening constricted blood vessels, releasing muscles tension, stimulating heart beat and improving blood circulation throughout the body. Whether your starting your week with a bath to center yourself for the upcoming agenda or ending your work week on a decompression note, even just one warm bath can be life changing.
Shrug it off! Many of us take stretching for granted. Relaxing core muscles can not only help with pain management, digestive health, but also sleep retention. People often carry tension stress in their shoulders, neck and back and we are so used to this stress it often goes unnoticed. Doing simple 2 minute desk-side stretched daily can drastically increase blood circulation and help with pain management.
Submerging your chest and neck under a few inches of water forces our diaphragm muscles to work a little harder to expand our lungs. When the water is warmer and your heart is beating faster, your oxygen intake can be improved and the steam created can clear your sinuses and chest. Short breathing exercises can also clear your mind and focus. Practice speeding up or slowing down your breathing for a short two minutes once a day. Focus on your breath, breathing in from the stomach and releasing through the nose in order to saturate your blood vessels with oxygen. Raised oxygen levels also increase our energy levels so basically breathing can also give you natural energy or relaxation!
Reconnecting with your Bestie
Few things raise our serotonin levels like spending time with those who we love. Sharing positive energy with another human being can be one of the most healing activities. Just 20 minutes with your best friend can improve blood pressure and stimulating mood balancing hormones & chemicals in the brain. So what are you waiting for, pick up the phone and get some best friend time on the books. You can't pour from an empty cup!
We guarantee incorporating one or all of these #selfcare moments into your weekly routine will boost your mood and stimulate self love. Because it all starts with you!
